Class? But I’m on Vacation!
GCFI is an educational program whose mission is to help educate park visitors about the cultural and natural history of the Grand Canyon. We use the term “class” to highlight the educational component found in every outing. Our expert instructors rely on a variety of informal teaching techniques to share the park’s remarkable interpretive themes, but there is an equal emphasis on fun. Think exploration vs. exams.
How Do I Choose a Class?
We invite you to browse our listing of classes. Each class is organized chronologically within a grouping or genre. If your primary consideration in choosing a class is timing, consult the chronological listing of the entire 2004 schedule in the Calendar of Classes.
Class fees are on a “per-person” basis. Members of Grand Canyon Association receive discounts on most classes. Join GCA now and receive the discounted price immediately.
What’s Included in My Tuition?
Your tuition includes expert instruction by leading Grand Canyon scientists, authors, researchers, historians, and naturalists; NPS-approved educational materials published by GCA; backpacking and camping permits; free camping immediately before/after class (where applicable); and an educational entrance fee waiver into the park. Select premium classes may include meals, lodging, gear, and mule pack service as indicated.
Am I Fit Enough to Hike the Grand Canyon ?
Whether you are joining us for a single-day rim class or a weeklong backpack, it is imperative that you honestly assess your ability to accomplish the physical tasks required of any given class. Each class has been assigned a numeric difficulty ranking that refers to levels found in our Hiking Difficulty Scale.
Whatever your age or level of experience, GCFI has an unforgettable experience waiting for you! |
