Note: The April 13-16 edition is full
A hike from rim to river spans millions of years of geologic time and takes you from forest to desert in short order. Join us for a memorable backpacking adventure as we examine rocks, fossils, and plant communities, and discuss both the ancient and modern human inhabitants of Grand Canyon.
A full day of orientation on the South Rim prepares you for the next day’s hike down the Bright Angel Trail to Indian Garden Campground for a two-night stay. We will leave our camping gear behind at this base camp and walk to scenic Plateau Point with its commanding view of the Inner Gorge. A day hike to the Colorado River provides participants with a glimpse of the forces that carved this marvel of a canyon. A visit to Phantom Ranch, which is several miles upriver from the point where the Bright Angel Trail meets the Colorado, is a possibility as well, depending on group desire and ability.
