You love the natural world and spend as much of your time out-of-doors as you can. But you’ve always wished you could name more of the plants and animals, or read the pages of geology that unfold all around you. Sound familiar?
How do naturalists learn all that stuff, anyhow? Many include academic study in their training, but virtually all of them rely as well on the method of the ages: honing their observational skills and finding a way to record what they see, adding one plant or bird or animal track to their vocabulary at a time. This skill of keen observation is one we can embrace at any stage of our lives, and in this workshop Teresa and Kate will introduce the gentle art of nature journaling as a way to increase your pleasure and knowledge of the natural world. You don’t have to be an artist or a writer to adopt the habit of the field journal, and the practice will enhance your experience not only of extraordinary places like the Grand Canyon but also of your daily life in your own backyard.
Participants receive a field journal, basic drawing and painting supplies, and a copy of Teresa’s Field Notes from the Grand Canyon: Raging River, Quiet Mind, an Illustrated Journal, published by Johnson Books. If you have a favorite medium please feel free to bring these supplies along as well.
