From the pine- and aspen-clad North Rim, the buttes and pinnacles that characterize the Grand Canyon are up close and personal. This vantage provides some spectacular photographic opportunities, especially as summer crests and the scenery is augmented by sensational cloud buildups. The challenge is to turn great views into great images. By mentally focusing on the visual elements that most excite them, participants learn how to compose scenes for the "wow" effect and use the effects of varied natural light to create vibrant images.
To facilitate this process the class carpools to scenic viewpoints ensuring we are in the right place at the right time—namely on the rim during sunrise and sunset. In addition to photographing grand vistas, participants also spend time in the North Rim's equally enchanting forest, recording the intimate face of the park in flowers, foliage, fauna, and fossils.
The class carpools to the various shooting locations on paved and gravel roads. Note: Participants receive daily feedback on their images.
